Upcoming Workshops & Events
Soil & Compost
We will examine what the components of good soil are, how we can keep it healthy for producing food and flowers and how to improve it using different composting methods. We'll explore techniques that are applicable on different scales, from our community garden to containers of pots on a balcony.
Growing Winter Vegetables
The workshop will explore what type of vegetables are suitable to grow late in the year, which ones can be planted from seed and which ones as young plants. In a practical exercise we will prepare the ground, sow and plant and plan how we will need to care for them as they become established.
Growing Low Maintenance Edible Landscapes
In this two hour workshop we will explore some of the design principles that can help us create low-maintenance edible landscapes using perennial fruit and vegetables. These edible landscapes, on a larger scale also forest gardens, can provide food, but also other resources such as timber and firewood as well as valuable habitat for wildlife.
Finnish Stories By Candlelight
This month at Treadwell, we will hear a selection of stories from the Kalevala, a Finnish book of myths. Come and immerse yourself in the stunning forests and lakes of Finland, while listening to the epic tales of Vainamoinen, Ilmarinen and the Maiden of Pohjhola.
Landor Road Orchard and Kitchen Garden Planting
Together with the Open Orchard, the Clapham BID and the Fenwick Estate TRA we will be planting a kitchen garden with herbs and a community orchard in a large planter on Landor Road, not far from Clapham North Station.
Natural Pest Control
This two-hour session will make you familiar with common garden pests such as slugs, aphids, blight and pigeons. We'll be looking at practical tools and strategies to overcome these unwanted visitors, and implementing some tried and tested techniques to help prevent them.
Tread Well On Earth - A 2-Day Introduction To Permaculture
Learn the basics of Permaculture Design on this two-day introduction workshop and be ready to try it out in your garden, your workplace and your life.
Stories & PoeTree
Stories are back at Treadwell!
This month, we will start by sharing some poetry and we will hear stories about trees. We'll explore what these great beings tell us about our inner landscapes in a seriously playful way.
Come along, bring a friend and be prepared to rewild your imagination with a zest of creativity.
Orchard Care & Maintenance
Come join the Open Orchard and Social Landscapes for a session on Orchard Care and Maintenance in Hillside Gardens Park.
Some trees need summer pruning, others need mulching; we will plant russian comfrey around them to help build healthy soil and reduce the cages of larger trees to free up the crown.
Permaculture Design Course – Creating Resilient Communities
The Permaculture Design Course is a 72-hour inspiring and often life-changing course, accredited by the UK Permaculture Association. Over the period of 7 weekends we will explore practical and creative solutions for building resilient communities and designing abundant eco-systems. We will discover how we can work with, rather than against nature to fulfil our human needs whilst caring for the earth and the people. The course has a strong practical emphasis on ecological and social design thinking and how this can be applied in different parts of our life and society.
