Remakery Permaculture Design Course
Resource Page
Find below handouts, links and other resources related to the Remakery Permaculture Design Course. Additional resources will follow after each weekend of the course.
Weekend 1 - Principles, Design and Survey
To do: Observation
I highly recommend you find a sit spot for yourself - a spot where you go back to regularly to observe nature. A sit spot allows you to become familiar with a place, and the place to become familiar with you.
Regardless of whether you do this in a sit spot or not, take some time over the next weeks to explore some of Starhawk’s 9 ways of observing. Also chose one or two of the Holmgren Principles and explore: where can you see this principle in nature and where will it be useful as a designer.
To do: The prerecorded presentations
The first 3 recordings are to watch after weekend 1 and ideally before our online meeting.
The 4th one, on water management principles is to be watched before weekend 2 of the course.
Permaculture Projects at different scales
A presentation on Ecosystems and Ecosystem functions
A presentation of a Social Landscapes delivered participatory design project at Roupell Park Estate
Water management principles
To do: ‘In our hands’ - a film by Black Bark Films and the Landworkers Alliance
I recommend you watch the documentary ‘In our hands’. The full film is available for free on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/331020608
“All change begins with a story and In Our Hands is the story of the farmers who, through hope, hard-graft and sheer bloody mindedness are refusing to be victims of history. This one hour documentary takes you on a journey across the fields of Britain, past the orchards of forgotten fruit and through the fields of ancient grains. The film reveals both the wisdom of the old and the innovations of the young, who are bringing back the worm to the soil, the ‘culture’ to ‘agriculture,’ and the flavour to the tomato! We stand on a brink, the swallows are departing, but the future of this land is still In Our Hands.”
Inhabit - A Permaculture Perspective is another good film to watch at this point in the course as it presents various permaculture projects and through them gives a good overview of what is possible.
